Dr Yega Muthu
Drawing on his experience from both academia and professional practice, Dr Yega Muthu established YM Lawyers to provide a service to clients built on insight and excellence.
From years of experience, Yega has specialised in mental health law, criminal law, forensics and human rights.
With an extensive global education, Yega’s successful knowledge of law was first recognised at Staffordshire University where he completed his LLB (Hons), University Post Graduate Diploma (Commercial Law), LLM (Business Law) and Bar-at-Law. After completing his bar course at Staffordshire University in 1996, he became a Barrister of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in London.
Building on his experience in London he devoted his time to write a doctoral thesis in the area of law and psychiatry from 1998-2003 in Australia. In 2004 Yega obtained his PhD in law focusing on psychiatry from Macquarie University. Most recently, Yega obtained his graduate diploma in legal practice from UTS in 2006.
Since 2006 Yega has been a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW. Subsequently, recognising his aptitude Yega was granted the judicial position as the ‘Lawyer’ member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal from 2008-2012. As a result of evaluating his passion and skills, since 2013 Yega has been the Director and Principal Solicitor at YM Lawyers.
In 2023, Yega was appointed as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Thomas More Law School, Australian Catholic University.
